On November 8th and 9th, almost 100 activists, practitioners and researchers came together in Kampala to spend two days of focused dialogue and learning on GBV prevention work in the region. The meeting’s theme was: Strengthening Regional Work on Gender-based Violence. It was hosted by the GBV Prevention Network, Interagency Gender Working Group (IGWG) , USAID/EARO, PATH, and Raising Voices.
The purpose of the meeting was to bring together organizations and activists working on GBV prevention to:
The meeting included participants from UN agencies, NGOs, CBOs, INGOs, USAID, policy makers and donor agencies. There were representatives from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, United States and Nicaragua.
On November 10th, there was a special field visit to Raising Voices and the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention. Visitors were able to visit a number of community-based activities to prevent domestic violence including: a journalist seminar, a community drama performance, and a community dialogue.
