Methodology
The intensive, hands-on training provided a learning experience for participants. Interactive sessions encouraged participants to develop their own analytical and practical skills. Theoretical sessions were limited, to enable practical, skill-building sessions. This was a hands-on course where members successfully created 5 new communication materials that will be available for all members of the Network to print and use in your prevention programs. These materials will be available for download in June 2011. Topics include: gender roles, power, PEP services, and brideprice. Watch this space!
“If people start using this way and doing this, we can really change the situation for women in the region.”
This workshop also provided a special opportunity for the participants to make action plans that would guide them in simulating certain parts of the training back in their home organisations using the take home module, which can be downloaded here. Due to the high demand for this training, Raising Voices is developing a Communication Materials Course Manual that will be available for all Network Members. It will include all key aspects of the course and written in a friendly, accessible style so all members can use it to facilitate their own learning processes and strengthen their own VAW prevention materials! Keep a look out for this on our website.
This group is keeping in touch and discussing their new skills and other important communication ideas on facebook at communication4change@groups.facebook.com. Join them to make your contribution, find out what they are saying or simply have a look at some pictures!
