Dandora Child Centred Space - CCF Kenya Project

Mission

The Child Centred Spaces (CCS) is an Emergency Response Project by CCF Kenya formed to provide Psycho-social support and referral services to children that were affected during the post-election violence in Kenya. GBV has been sited as one of the major issues to be addressed by the CCSs. The volunteers have recently undergone training on GBV and came up with an Action Plan to address the same.

Key areas of work

  • Prevention at the community-level: community education, mobilization, awareness raising, etc

GBV Focal Issues

  • Domestic violence
  • Rape/sexual assault
  • Girl-child sexual abuse
  • Sexual harassment

GBV Prevention Strategies

GBV awareness is almost absent in the highly populated slums in Dandora, Nairobi- Kenya. At the end of our training last Friday on 30th May 08, we laid down an Action Plan as follows:

A community stakeholders\' orientation meeting to form a working group with all stakeholders in Dandora including churches, mosques, CBOs, CSOs, (I)NGOs, Govt Administration among others GBV Awareness Campaign Day in the month of June.

Initiation of GBV awareness peer groups within Primary and High Schools, Women, Men, Residents and Youth Groups.

Key Lessons

We are in our ambitious stage of starting out GBV prevention. We are going to the field expecting both positive and negative responses from our community dominated by poverty.
