Participatory Initiative for real Development (PIRD) - Uganda
Vision
Vision ‘An empowered community, free from injustices, having sustainable peace and equal Social Economic development opportunities for harmonious coexistence in the region and Uganda as a whole’.
Mission
To be a legitimate Instrument Operating in Uganda, in particular West Nile sub region, focusing on Peace Initiatives, Human rights protection, Good Governances, Healthy living practices and good sanitation, Poverty eradication, Promote Educational programmes, Agricultural/Market development opportunities and Skill in Income Generating for the social welfare of the people in the region and Uganda as a whole.
Objectives
- To assess conflict potentials and their causes, promote peace initiatives among the different community groups as well as reduce conflict gap by dialogue and sustain community social relationship.
- To identify and prioritize areas of interventions targeting water and Sanitation, good hygiene practices, Good Governance, Education (apprentship/ skills training) and Gender mainstreaming to be implemented in partnership with the district and other development partners in the region for national development.
- To develop a concept for long term sustainable programme in the communities aiming at strengthening food security, nutrition among the communities.
- To develop a concept for a Programme, which takes into consideration other Crosscutting themes such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria (Child and Maternal mortality) and sustainable Environment Resource Management.
- To promoting capacity building of local communities (Men and Women) to form, manage Self help affinity groups (savings and credit co-operatives and associations) and facilitate access to credit as focal points for further rural development.
- To help, synthesize knowledge, germinate leadership and promote the capacity of farmers to adjust their cropping patterns to meet market demand and stimulate

GBV Prevention Strategies
“Community Mobilization and Sensitization to prevent Conflicts (Crime) to promote peace and justice for the poor and the marginalized”.
The objective outlined is and has been translated into a set of strategic actions in order to enhance:
- Justice, reduce both violent and structural conflicts that are criminal.
- Facilitate the communities to understand their roles in promoting harmonious co-existence in the Community.
Activities:
- To facilitate attitude and behaviour change in the communities.
- To promote Justice; reduce both violence and structural conflicts those are criminal.
- Sensitize communities to understand their role in promoting harmonious co-existence.
- Build community support for structure that is supportive of women’s rights.
- To prepare the community to take action against violence and become vigilant activists.
- To have a collective focused action to Sustain mechanisms that advocate for respect for Human rights.
Key Lessons
- There is need for an attitude and behaviour change in community to stop domestic violence.
- Intensity of violence does vary from place to place and myths and misconceptions.
- Domestic violence has a lot of impact on each and every bodies work and day to day activities.
- Domestic violence is a by product of poor leadership etc.
