Mission / Objectives
The Namibian Voices for Development is a registered Namibian Welfare Organization in terms of Section 19 of the National Welfare Act, Act 12 of 1979, Registration number, WO 256. Namibian Voices for Development is an organization dedicated to promote the protection of human rights through civic education, using the Media as our main tool to disseminate information. Namibian Voices for Development started it's media work in Combating Gender Based Violence in February 2006 and during it's first year of existence it was awarded the Namibian National Award for Combating Gender Based Violence through the Media on 07 December 2006.
Our vision is information for development by rendering services directed at the elimination of human rights violations throughout Namibia. We implement our vision through working towards a society free from human rights abuses in all its forms in which people have equal rights and opportunities to enjoy the culture of peace and tolerance.
Our mission is to foster healthy lifestyles, create healthy and safe environments where people live, learn and work. We would like to work with all partners to promote healthy human development, reduce risk behaviour and diseases. This we shall achieve through information dissemination, whereby we believe that gaining knowledge is empowerment. And through this program we aim to facilitate a process of empowerment for all Namibians, with special focus on women and children's rights and build the capacity of all. The Organization wishes to fulfil its vision and mission through close co-operation with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Ministry of Health and Social Services, Council of Church in Namibia, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation\'s National Radio and Television Services and other Community- and Private Radio stations.
Objectives:
To promote the full recognition and protection of basic human rights of all groups in the society, by means of radio and television presentations, trainings, distribution of educational material and ongoing advocacy and lobbying campaigns.
To facilitate empowerment of communities and individuals (women and children) through information dissemination and training, in order to understand human rights as a development issue and to improve their living standards.
To encourage society to take control over their lives and be responsible citizens, by means of radio presentations in the main Namibian languages and through programmes that will promote healthy lifestyles.
To increase awareness and understanding among the community of the ways in which HIV/AIDS, Poverty, Unemployment, Domestic violence, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Property Grabbing, Health and Reproductive rights and the lack of Education, violates basic human rights, by means of training and outreach workshops in the thirteen regions of Namibia.
Prevention is better than cure through providing people with knowledge and skills how to solve their own problems and prevent gender based violence from occurring. Knowledge is empowerment, because people implement it in situations where they do not know how to handle.
