Feinstein International Center: Forced Marriage within the Lord’s Resistance Army, Khristopher Carlson & Dyan Mazurana, May 2008. This report is an in depth investigation based on 103 testimonies of women and girls abducted and forced into marriage with Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) combatants. The LRA is a rebel movement fighting the Government of Uganda and is estimated to have kidnapped over 60,000 children and youth. Refugee Law Project, Uganda (2008): This report examines the widespread occurrence of early marriages in Uganda's refugee settlements and how this phenomenon relates to the vulnerability and self-reliance paradigms that underpin official protection and assistance. The authors seek to understand why early marriages is a common phenomenon in refugee communities, which are illegal under Ugandan and international law, and widely recognized amongst refugees themselves as harmful. United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM): Expert Group Consultation on Tracking and Monitoring Gender Equality and HIV/AIDS in aid effectiveness outcome and recommendations brochure. The consultation took place from May 28th to 30th 2008. Key agreements were made as a group on how best to ensure that there is a clear set of actions for promoting a comprehensive response to women’s rights and gender equality in the context of HIV and AIDS, and for building on the efforts to improve monitoring of results and progress in this regard.
